"Good Luck" to Farnham Swimming Club at the K2 today - Go for it. Kick those legs Pippa! I'll be watching on the webcam.

Good morning everyone. Welcome back to day 2 of the Championships

This morning we have conclusive proof that coaches don't need sleep - with an hour to go before warm up we already have coaches on poolside.  That's dedication for you!

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 08:42

Todays programme is the mirror image of yesterdays with the sexes switched, except that the relays are 4x200 (deep joy!). We will be starting in just over 15 minutes with the boys 4x50m IM.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 09:10

We're off with the Boys 200IM - first heat done.

You might  need to refresh to get the live results scoreboard up.

Comment by Paul Pitts on 31 May 2009 at 09:20

Good Luck Swimmers, let's hope there's as many great swims today as yesterday. All the very best to Maxwell and swimmers from Oxford & North Bucks....Paul and the Maxwell committee.....Goodd luck for the 200 IM Maxwell Boys!

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 09:22

Only 1 swimmer left to go in the age 10 boys IM. Based on his entry time, Oliver Kincart should beat 2:58.82 with ease to take the gold.

Comment by Emma Tripp on 31 May 2009 at 09:23

Good luck to all the Hart swimmers again today! Yesterday was fab lets make today even better!! From Emma :-)

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 09:24

Actually his target is 2:49.54 but the same comment applies.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 09:32

Just four 11 year olds left to go now in heats 9 and 10.  William Wood is currently leading in 2:44.13.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 09:41

So Rubens King holds on to his lead from heat 9 to take gold in 2:41.48.  Sean O'Kill comes in 2nd and William Wood 3rd.

These swims also count towards the Medley category of the overall BAGCATs.

Comment by lynda kay on 31 May 2009 at 09:47

good luck to the portsmouth boys

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 09:50

There are finals for the 200m IM, so no medals yet, but good indications of where the medals will go.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 09:51

Oops - I forgot about the finals.  But we now know who the qualifiers are for the 10, 11 and 12 year olds.

Comment by Clare Littlejohn on 31 May 2009 at 10:07

Many thanks to Chris Lambert for keeping us at home up to date. Hanging on your every word! Go swimmers from FARNHAM SWIMMING CLUB.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:15

Full results from Event 201 are now up.  Top 8 in each age group qualify for the finals.

If you don't see a link to Session 4 you may need to refresh.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:29

Not so many updates during the 100s, we are all doing other jobs on poolside which don't allow much time for web comments. More 200s later in the morning.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:31

Just a quick comment then - the 11 year age group was decided in Heat 9 so the result showing now is the final result for that age group.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:32

Swimmers in the older age groups will have to wait until the 17th and final heat to know where they stand.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:33

We are graced today by the presence of the President of the ASA, Kay Grimshaw, Welcome to K2, Kay.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:41

Lots of very close finishes to make the officials think in this event.  4 swimmers within 0.07 seconds in heat 16!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:43

And onto the Boys 100 Fly.  Let's hope these are a little more spread out!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:49

It seems to me that 100 fly is a long way when you're only 11 but all 15 made it with no DQs and the result is now shown.  Well done swimmers.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 10:49

No worries about placings. The electronic timing seems to be working fine (even if the operator is not quite with it!)

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 11:05

Back to the slightly more relaxed times now we're on to the 200 Back.

We have a few swimmers aiming for 100m National times in this event so they may be a little slower over the full distance.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 11:18

After heat 5 there's still three 10 year olds to swim.  Kelly Small is seeded fastest aiming at Jessica Bishop's time of 2:52.61.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 11:27

And Kelly does take the 10 year old age group in 2:46.05.  Zara Ryan 2nd and Jessica Bishop 3rd.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 11:29

Looking to the 11 year olds - four girls left to swim.  They currently aiming at the Hannah Dry's standard of 2:48.49.

Comment by Davi Castanheira Ferreira on 31 May 2009 at 11:33

Good job to all Rushmoor Royals swimmers. Keep up the good work

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 11:42

The final 11 year old, Charlotte Evans, didn't match those in the previous heat so the final standings are Natasha Johnson in 2:40.60, then Megan Owen and Ellie Hoar.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 11:51

The end of the 200 Back brings us to the finals.

Comment by jackie bunce on 31 May 2009 at 11:51

hope everybody is doing really well from Maxwell at regionlals love abi and nicole :)

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 11:56

Final of the Boys Age 10 200IM
Oliver Kincart was well ahead in the heats and he leads after 50m.

At the half way mark Oliver leads but there's nothing between Ryan Smith and Max Kelly-Gee for second place.  With 50m to go it looks like Oliver has it in the bag.

Oliver Kincart wins in 2:41.69.  Ryan second and Max third.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 12:04

Final of the Boys Age 11 200IM
It's Guildford, Guildford, Portsmouth, Portsmouth across the centre of the pool.  But Adam Milne has a great start in lane 7 to lead after 50m.  Milne holds his lead at the half way stage but Ben Evans comes through strongly for second.

The Breaststroke proves vital once again as Rubens King and Sean O'Kill take 1st and 2nd with 50 to go.  And that's how it finishes after a tight freestyle leg - King, O'Kill, Milne.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 12:06

Final of the Boys Age 12 200IM
Ben Levart lead from the start to take Gold.  Tom Gregson second and James Wheadon third.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 12:10

Final of the Boys Age 13 200IM
Just 6 swimmers in this final after some late withdrawals.

The seeding suggests it will be very close and this is the case after 50m with only 0.16 seconds between the first three.  And it's still tighter after the first 100 with Dos Santos, Laing, Condron and Fryer neck and neck.

It comes down to a sprint down the final length but Ewan Laing takes it in 2:26.26.  William Condron 2nd and Courtney Dos Santos third.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 12:20

Final of the Boys Age 14 200IM
Jack Beddoes leads after 50m followed by George Wilson and Henry Young.  The three of them maintain their positions for the backstroke leg.

An impressive breaststroke leg from Neil Redman sees him come through to lead with 50m to go followed by Nichols Salerno and Jack Beddoes touching together for second place.

Redman can't quite hold it for the final 50 and finishes in 4th behind winner Matthew Masters, Nicholas Salerno in 2nd and Jack Beddoes taking bronze.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 12:21

And all that excitement means we need a bit of a break!  12:45 warm up and 1:15 start for the next session.

Oh - and it looks like the webcam ran out of batteries which explains why it stopped a little while ago.  I'll fix that during the break.

Comment by jane chenery on 31 May 2009 at 12:22

Good luck to Maxwell girls and boys

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:04

After withdrawals we have 2 heats each of the boys and girls 4 x 200m freestyle relay, which means that session 4 will take around 40 minutes.

Comment by Paul Pitts on 31 May 2009 at 13:11

Good luck for the afternoon Maxwell. Great Long course 100m free swim Ellie...well done!!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:13

Just a few minutes until we start the relays.

We have 4x200m Relays today so we're looking at around 9-10 minutes per heat.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:18

And the first heat is underway.  In this heat we have Southampton B, Black Lion B, Rushmoor, Guildford B, Amersham, Southampton A and Black Lion A across the pool.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:20

At the first takeover it's Black Lion A, Southampton A and Amersham as 1, 2, 3.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:22

No change in the leaders at the half way stage but there's still a long way to go.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:26

So as the Black Lion enter their final leg 12 seconds ahead it looks like they will win the heat.

And they do - their time of 8:49.28 is the target to aim for for the teams in heat 2.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:40

In heat 2 Milton Keynes lead from the start but Bracknell and Wokingham came back strongly in the second part of the race, overtaking on the final length to claim gold.

Milton Keynes second and Leatherhead third.  Black Lion's time from the first heat was enough to gain them 4th place.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:44

In the first heat of the Girls relay Leatherhead head after the first 200 but Black Lion over take to lead at the 1/2 way mark.  Southampton are close behind.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:46

With 200 to go Southampton have taken the lead followed by Black Lion and 1066.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 13:48

City of Southampton bring it back in 9:45.49 to win the first heat.  Black Lion 2nd, 1066 in third.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 14:22

Sorry for the delay in updating you on the second heat of the girls - needed to check a takeover before confirming the result.

Rushmoor and Oxford touched virtually together after the first 200 but Rushmoor couldn't hold it on the second leg and Oxford control followed by Amersham and Guildford.

There was nothing to choose between the same top three as the last swimmer entered the pool - less than 0.2 seconds between them.  It all came down to the final swimmer and Guildford's was the strongest, claiming gold in 9:18.12.  Oxford took silver but Amersham could not quite grasp bronze, loseing out to Maxwell.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 14:45

In a couple of minutes we'll be off with Session 4.  15 heats of Boys 400 free followed by 9 heats of Girls 400 IM.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 14:45

Ready to go at the start of session 6. We start with 15 heats of 400m freestyle for boys.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 14:49

We have to wait until heat 7 for the first medals to be decided - but then we get two age groups at once with both the 10 and 11 year olds culminating in that heat.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 15:11

We're 4 heats in and just Oliver Kincart to go in the 10 year old age group.  Ryan Smith currently leads with 5:08.35, about 12 seconds ahead of Sam Westermen who is currently in 2nd place.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 15:22

Heat 7 has entered the water.  Oliver Kincart targetting 5:08.35 and the two 11 year olds (Adam Milne in Lane 1 and Sean O'Kill in Lane 5) looking to beat Aaron Lloyd's time of 4:50.09 from Heat 6.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 15:31

Ryan Smith's and Aaron Lloyd's times from earlier heats survive and they take the hold medals at ages 10 and 11 respectively.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 15:34

That'll be the gold medals :)

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 15:35

Of course all of these swims count towards the Distance category of the overall BAGCATS.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 15:45

Three 12 year olds left to swim - one each in heats 11, 12 and 13.  The current time to aim for is 4:41.29 form Thomas Gregson.  Oliver Kilbey just .01 behind is also well placed to be in medal contention.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 15:55

William Stanhope and Thomas Diaper-Fox haven't been able to beat Thomas Gregson's time but can Ben Levart do it in heat 13?  He's in the water now so we'll find out shortly.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 15:59

Ben Levart can beat Gregson in a time of 4:38.35 so he takes gold.

Only two 13 year olds to go currently targetting 4:35.33.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 16:10

Still no change at the top of the 13 year olds going into the final heat. Can Cameron Lamborune beat 4:35.33?

Yes, so he takes Gold in 4:32.70.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 16:19

And for the 14 year olds George Wilson took gold in the final heat in a time of 4:19.61.  Jack Beddoes 2nd in 4:22.92.

Now onto the Girls 400IM.

Comment by Davi Castanheira Ferreira on 31 May 2009 at 16:28

Amazing swimm from Angharad Eburne. Congratulations

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 16:38

The last 10 year old swims in the current heat (heat 4).  Zara Ryan has a time of 5:54.57 from Ella Windle to beat.

At the half way stage Zara is just under 8 seconds ahead of Ella's split but this drops to just 1.5 seconds with 100m to do. Zara manages to hold this lead to the end to win in a time of 5:51.93.

Comment by Paul Pitts on 31 May 2009 at 16:41

Great Effort in the relays Maxwell...well done. Congrats also to City of Oxford and CMK....keep it up for ONB!! Brilliant

With my Basingstoke Bluefins hat on .. some amzing swims and NQTs. Need to cancel the mini and order a bus!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 16:51

The final 11 year is in the water.  Leah Picollo has a target of 5:40.59.

Leah comes in in a time of 5:42.91 so Ellie Hoar takes gold.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 17:03

Both the older two age groups will be decided in the final heat.

The three 12 year olds will be targetting 5:28.72 while the five 13 year olds will be looking for 5:23.42.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 17:11

That last update was rubbish by the way - I looked at the wrong times!

Age 12 winner was Emma Day in 5:15.35.

Age 13 winner was Emily Ard in 5:18.14

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 17:21

Into the final event of the weekend - the boys 12-14 100 backstroke.  7 heats but not much time for web updates as there's lots of refereeing to be done.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 17:40

Matthew Masters wins the final heat to take gold in the 14 years in a time of 1:04.84.

Josh Pankhurst's1:06.02 in heat 6 was enough to secure gold in the 13 years age group.

Lost property will be left at reception at K2. Including

  • GCSE revision folder belonging to Dominic Holloway
  • Pair of male black NIke swimming shorts

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 17:41

And that concludes the swimming for this weekend.  Just got to finalise everything and clear up before heading home.

Comment by Jenny Richards on 31 May 2009 at 19:07

Excellent reporting, considering Chris was reffing and Mike was doing something arcane with a computer. (And thanks for fixing the sore feet problem!)

Posted by Chris Lambert on 31 May 2009 at 20:56

And just to give a few statistics from the website this weekend for those who might be interested - over the weekend we served 3.17GB of data to over 600 visitors.  And one more big number - that's 636,717 page views :)
