Three days to go until the 2009 Age Group Championships kick off at K2, Crawley.
Check back during the weekend for all the latest updates from the pool, live results and (hopefully) live pictures.

If you are not intending to swim this coming weekend, don't forget to withdraw. Failure to withdraw will cost you/your club £10 per event.
Withdrawal forms may be downloaded from the website and will of course be available on the day. If you want to withdraw before Saturday, send us an e-mail. Please include your ASA registration number and date of birth as "proof of identity".

I'm not sure if we can do anything at this stage - depends if the required computers have been packed up yet! I'll see if we can do something.
Posted by Mike Lambert on 29 May 2009 at 11:51
I will try to load something this evening covering the whole championships. Currently, I don't have access to the master database.
Posted by Mike Lambert on 29 May 2009 at 11:52
Well done to the people who have e-mailed in withdrawals. All of you have given me DoBs and Registration Numbers. Very helpful, takes some of the pressure off tomorrow morning.
Posted by Mike Lambert on 29 May 2009 at 11:54
Just off to Staples to stock up on consumables, paper etc and most importantly DUCK TAPE. Looking forward to an exciting (and warm weekend).
Comment by Chris Ryan on 29 May 2009 at 12:03
Sorry if I missed it in the detail, please confirm whether or not there is a formal sign in process or presumed attendance (and hence withdrawal process etc) Thanks
Posted by Chris Lambert on 29 May 2009 at 12:22
There's no need to sign in - swimmers just need to report to the competitor's stewards at the appropriate time.
Comment by Jo Murphy on 29 May 2009 at 12:52
We haven't received our coach's pass! Is there a place to collect them? Thanks Jo
Posted by Chris Lambert on 29 May 2009 at 13:40
You should be able to collect your coache's passes from a table on poolside on Saturday morning.

Good Morning. Bright and sunny day. Perfect for a day in a swimming pool. Probably won't need a warm jacket today!

The final heat of the 200 Backstroke is in the water. Can they beat the times set in previous heats?
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 12:52
The answer is yes - a close finish but Matthew Masters wins the age 14 in 2:19.98.
NOW - on to the finals.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 12:57
Girls Age 10 200IM: Zara Ryan leads after 50m with Sophie Waller close behind. Ryan extends her lead in the second 50 but the breaststroke leg is all important in a medley.
Less than 1/2 second between Ryan and Waller with 50 to go - a sprint to the finish. And Zara Ryan holds it, Sophie Waller second and Kelly Small third.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 13:03
Girls Age 11 200IM: Natasha Johnson lead for the first 100 but again the breaststoke proved vital with Hannah Dry from Guildford coming through to claim victory. Leah Picillo 2nd.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 13:07
Girls Age 12 200IM: Emma Day leads at the half way stage and it looks like no one can catch her on the final 100. Emma wins with team mate Tilly Prowse taking silver. A close fight for third with Nicole Dollery just missing out to Lily Glover by just 0.02 seconds.
Comment by Emma Tripp on 30 May 2009 at 13:11
Well done to all Hart swimmers this morning!! Fab swims from everyone! From Emma Tripp, Hart SC
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 13:11
Girls Age 13 200IM: All eight swimmers get off to a good start in the last final of this session. Chloe Fulford leads after the fly leg but at the half way stage there's nothing in it. Eleanor Dolan just leading in lane 4.
As they turn into the final 50 there's still nothing to choose between the top 3 but Dolan touches in first place, Emily Ard second and Chloe Bean taking bronze.

All that excitement brings us to the end of the first session. Time for a bite to eat.

We're about to get started with Session 2 of the championships.
This is a fairly short session - just 6 heats of relays.
Posted by Mike Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 14:14
As you can see, we have a different view of the pool for the next session.
Comment by Paul Pitts on 30 May 2009 at 14:22
Fantastic 200IM finals Maxwell....Silver medal for Leah and a 2.43! Well done and bring on the afternoon!!
Comment by Peter Eburne on 30 May 2009 at 14:23
Good luck to Rushmoor Royals in the relays
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 14:28
Basingstoke Bluefins set the standard in heat 1 - 4:59.78.
Comment by Sophie du Plessis on 30 May 2009 at 14:30
Well done guys! emma, tilly and hannah you did great in the finals! :) keep it up!!!!!!! luv doop xxx (guildford)
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 14:33
Amersham have improved on that time in heat 2 - 4:57.37 is the time the teams in heat 3 need to aim for.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 14:38
But Guilford City take the final heat and first position overall in a time of 4:46.99. Second City of Oxford and 3rd place Windsor.
Comment by Sophie du Plessis on 30 May 2009 at 14:39
WOOOOOOOO Go guildford!!! WELL DONE!
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 14:43
So onto the Boys 4x100 Freestyle Relay.
Basingstoke Bluefins lead for the first 200 but Atlantis overtake to take the first heat by less than a second in 4:08.45.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 14:48
In heat 2 Black Lion lead for most of the race to improve the standard to 4:01.80.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 14:53
Final heat: Bracknell and Wokingham finish in 3:56.79 ahead of Guildford City in 2nd and Milton Keynes in 3rd.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 14:54
After this short session we will be taking another break for warm up until 3:45pm.
Just time to watch the first half of the FA Cup final in the bar if they start on time?
Comment by Paul Pitts on 30 May 2009 at 15:44
Well done Maxwell Boys....superb effort in the Freestyle relay. The lions have \"roared\" in South Africa!!
Posted by Mike Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 15:45
The pool is empty, ready for the start of session 3.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 15:46
So as Everton and Chelsea head in for a half time break we kick off with Session 3.
FYI - we have 13 heats of Girls 400 Free and 10 heats of Boys 400 IM. Then a few 100 backs to finish the session off.
Comment by Sophie du Plessis on 30 May 2009 at 15:47
warm up well...swim well...eat well and sleep well! doop x
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 16:04
So as we move into the third heat we have already had most of the 10 year olds - just two more to swim. Ella Windle in this heat and Zara Ryan in heat 5. Kelly Small currently leads the Age 10s in 5:17.00 - faster than Ella's (converted) entry time but slower than Zara's.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 16:08
Kelly Small hangs on to the lead there with just one more 10 year old to swim.
The next few heats see the bulk of the 11 year olds.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 16:16
Heat 5 is where the 10 year old age group will be decided. Zara Ryan is ahead of Kelly Small's 200m time but there's still plenty of time left for that to change!
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 16:20
But Zara holds her place to win the Age 10 400m Freestyle in 5:09.47. Pretty good!
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 16:26
And our thoughts can turn to the 11 year old age group with just 6 swimmers left to go in heats 6, 7 and 9.
After heat 6 it's Angharad Eburne in 5:04.19. The entry times suggest Ellie Hoar from Portsmouth will finish well ahead of the rest but the rest of the medals are likely to be decided in heat 7.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 16:37
After heat 7 there's no change at the top of the age 11 with jsut Ellie Hoar to swim.
But don't forget that it's the overall BAGCAT points which matter most in these championships so everyone swimming the 400m event gets their distance points on the board.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 16:43
And as expected Ellie Hoar takes gold in the 11 year age group in a time of 4:59.77. Another very good swim.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 16:54
As heat 12 enters the pool it seems worth pointing out that both the 12 and 13 year age groups will be decided in the next and final heat.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 17:08
The swimmers in the final heat are aiming to beat 4:37.69 for the 13 year olds and 4:46.16 for the 12 year olds.
With 100 to go Chloe Bean looks to be heading to victory in the 13 age group - and she does in a new regional record time of 4:29.68.
Kristina Neves wins in the 12 year old category in 4:37.96.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 17:23
On to the Boys 400IM. Although we've already seen most of the 10 year olds in the first two heats we'll have to wait until heat 7 to see the last - Oliver Kincart with an entry time over 30 seconds ahead of the next fastest in the age group.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 17:34
With 5 11 year olds left to go in heats 5 and 6 the age group is currently headed by Adam Milne in 5:43.98.
Comment by jane chenery on 30 May 2009 at 17:43
hi to Maxwell swim club good luck to all of them love Lucy and megan
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 17:47
Aaron Lloyd has a target of 5:32.71 to win the Age 11, but at the half way stage he is .08 outside Ruben King's split. Aaron doesn't manage to pull it back but his time of 5:37.75 is good enough for a bronze medal and national qualifying. Well done to Rubens King who takes gold.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 17:53
Just in case you've forgotten - we've now had the last 10 year old. Oliver Kincart wins the gold more than 30 seconds ahead of Ryan Smith in 2nd and Jordan Brett in 3rd. An outstanding swim there for a 10 year old.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 18:02
Heat 8 saw the last of the 12 year olds - Ben Levart finishing narrowly ahead of Thomas Gregson in a close fought race.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 18:06
And on to the final heat to see the conclusion of both the 13 and 14 age group.
In the 13 years there's just Ewan Laing aiming to beat 5:27.24 while the rest go head-to-head for the 14 year medals.
As with the girl's event the main focus is the overall BAGCATs with this event contributing to the Medley category (unsurprisingly!).
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 18:11
Laing does beat the previous best to take gold in the 13 year age group.
It's Matthew Masters leading in the 14 age group at the half way stage but Neil Redman storms up the outside on the breaststroke leg to lead by 7m with 2 lengths to go. Matthew comes back strongly on the freestyle but Neil Redman holds on to win gold by just over 1/2 a second.
Posted by Chris Lambert on 30 May 2009 at 18:24
On to the 100 back which come quicker so less time for web updates!
Comment by jane chenery on 30 May 2009 at 18:40
good luck to Charlotte Evans and all at ADSC. from your old mates . Luch and Meg Chenery.. GO 4 IT

Comment by Davi Castanheira Ferreira on 29 May 2009 at 10:01
Hi Mike/Chris Just wondering, are you planning to publish any start list for this championship? I’m not asking about heat-sheets or the accepted/rejected list, just the pre-withdraw list. Thanks
