More Details

The 2008 ASA South East Region BAGCAT Championships were held at K2, Crawley.

BAGCAT certificates for each swimmer were available at the end of Session 11. Those not collected will be posted to clubs.

Gala Procedure - Competition Conditions

A withdrawal system will be in operation for this competition.

Club representatives are expected to submit withdrawal forms for swimmers who are not intending to swim no later than 45 minutes before the advertised starting time of the first event in the session.

Provision will be made for clubs with no representative present to submit notification of withdrawals by telephone and via the Region's Web site.

A fine of £10 will be levied in respect of each competitor who fails to withdraw and does not present themself at the start of the event (except in the case of genuine illness or of a proven emergency). All fines are levied on the competitor's club.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can times slower than 18 minutes for 1500m be converted from Long Course to Short Course?
A: For some reason the current ASA equivalent performance tables stop at 18:02..00. (This did not use to be case with previous versions. I suspect that this is an error rather than a deliberate act). For the purposes of this competition, convert times slower than 18:02.00 by SUBTRACTING 19.2 seconds.

Q: Are entry times from Level 4 Licensed Meets acceptable?
A: No. The definition of levels of meet produced by the ASA makes this clear and the qualifying times sheet for this competition confirms it.

Q: When will session times be confirmed?
A: Session times have now been confirmed.

Q: Why are there Automatic and Base Qualifying times?
A: The programme for the Youth Championships is having to be changed substantially. This makes it difficult for us to establish a single Automatic Qualifying time. It would be confusing to have different rules for the Youth and Age Group competitions. As a reminder, swimmers who achieve the Automatic time WILL be accepted. Swimmers who achieve the Base time MAY be accepted if there is space.

Q: Can long course times be used for entries?

A: Although entry times must be based on a 25m pool, long course times may be used, converted according to the Equivalent Performance Tables published by the ASA. Find on the web site under Event Information in Useful Documents in the Swimming Section.

Q: What are the main changes to the Championship Conditions for 2008?
A: There is now explicit provision for the on-line entry system. There are minor changes to the British Age Group categories. (All events now count for all swimmers). A £10 fine is introduced for swimmers who do not withdraw and fail to present themselves at the start of their race.
